Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem locked horns at UFC 141 on Friday night. It was a night that Lesnar and fans across the world will never forget. Not only was Lesnar defeated by TKO in the first round, but he also declared his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts.
With Lesnar out of the business, it’s Overeem’s turn to take the torch from Lesnar as the toughest heavyweight in the UFC.
The only difference between Overeem and Lesnar’s ability inside of the octagon will be victories. Lesnar’s 5-3 career MMA record proved that he was just another guy that thought he could get it done inside of the cage.
Boy was he wrong.
Lesnar, however, was a bad dude to get inside the octagon with. He is scary. He’s a freak of nature. He had his moments, but in the end, he wasn’t cut out for MMA.
But there’s a new bad boy in town and that’s Overeem. If you thought Lesnar was an absolute beast of a human being, this guy knocked him into retirement.
Who can say that?
Alistair’s powerful blows and strikes with his knees prove that he was everything we hoped to see in his UFC debut. The way he used the clinch was exceptional.
Lesnar is 6’3”, 265 pounds and is 34 years old. Overeem is 6’5”, 256 pounds and is 31 years old. He is also 36-11-1 in MMA fights compared to Lesnar’s 5-3.
Overeem was made to be a fighter in MMA and Lesnar was just make belief. Not only did Overeem defeat him via TKO, but he backed up his words when he said, “I’m going to rip Brock Lesnar apart, piece-by-piece.”
That’s exactly what he did.
While Lesnar will probably go back to the WWE, Overeem will get his glorious opportunity to win the UFC Heavyweight Title when he faces Junior Dos Santos.
One man’s loss is another man’s gain. Overeem is the new freak of nature in the UFC.
